STOCK EXHAUST SYSTEM REMOVAL #

  1. Remove the OEM exhaust system entirely.
  2. Remove the rear master cylinder mounting screws (two locations).
  3. Insert both the grommet and the grommet spacer into the circular hole on muffler bracket; use either early or late model Ref. Figure 1
  4. Fasten (either early or late model) muffler bracket to the existing master cylinder mounting screw holes (two locations) using the M6 button head screws (2), M6 flat washers (2), and the bracket spacers (2) Ref. Figure 2 Note: Using medium strength Loctite (not supplied), torque to 90 in./lbs.
  5. Using a lift, reduce the weight on rear end of the motorcycle to remove the right side linkage bolt.
  6. Fasten mid pipe bracket reusing the right side linkage bolt. The stock washer between the nut is not                                                       reused in this installation step Ref. Figure 3 Note: Using high strength Loctite (not supplied), torque linkage bolt to 27 ft./lbs. per Factory specs.
  7. Install the exhaust header using the stock cylinder head nuts Ref. Figure 4
  8. Spread the muffler tabs slightly to go over grommet previously installed on the muffler bracket. Secure the exhaust to muffler bracket using the supplied M8 bolt (1), M8 flat washers (2), and M8 lock nut (1) Ref. Figure 5 Note: Torque to 18 ft./lbs.
  9. Open the supplied barrel clamp to slide over the pipe and mid pipe bracket Ref. Figure 6 Note: Tighten to 90 in./lbs.
  10. Clean all fingerprints from the exhaust using a contact cleaner (or other non-flammable cleaner). Fingerprints will leave stains on the pipe once the motorcycle is started.
  11. You are now ready to start your motorcycle.
  12. After initial ride, re-torque barrel clamp and all hardware as needed.

EXHAUST CARE #

  1. When installing a new set of stainless pipes, make sure your hands are clean and free of oil. After installation, thoroughly clean pipes with a soft cloth and cleaning solvent that will leave no residue (acetone glass cleaner, alcohol, etc.) before starting the Motorcycle.
  2. It is considered normal for stainless steel exhaust systems to discolor due to heat.
  3. High performance engine tuning utilizing a dyno will likely result in severe discoloration.
  4. Avoid long periods of idling as this can cause discoloration. Intake leaks can cause the engine to run lean and overheat, this could lead to discoloration.
  5. Make sure there are no exhaust leaks at the junction of the exhaust pipes and cylinder head. We recommend replacing gaskets if they are worn.
