Vance & Hines Motorsports, founded over 45 years ago by Terry Vance and Byron Hines, emerged from Southern California’s motorcycle drag race scene, driven by a passion for speed and innovation. Their racing success, fueled by their love of the sport garnered widespread attention and spurred the growth of their performance parts business. Today, the company continues to harness race track triumphs and their motorcycle racing heritage to create impactful products for riders globally, maintaining partnerships with leading motorcycle brands and engaging in various racing disciplines since 1979.

The Vance & Hines brand has always been about enhancing the exhilaration of the motorcycle ride. 

Today the Vance & Hines Motorsports mission is the same; make bikes go faster on the racetrack and take those learnings to make impactful products for riders around the world. Since 1979, it has run factory race programs in partnership with Suzuki, Yamaha, Ducati and Harley-Davidson in drag racing, road racing and flat track with no signs of letting off the throttle anytime soon.

1972

The Beginning

Terry Vance began making a name for himself in motorcycle drag racing. During this period, he meets Byron Hines, an exceptional engine tuner.

1974

The Partnership

Vance and Hines officially teamed up and started building their motorcycle racing heritage together. This partnership was marked by Vance's success on the drag racing circuit, with Hines as the mastermind behind the high-performance engines.

1973

First Championship

Vance won his first NMRA Top Gas Championship aboard a Twin Engine Honda Byron built. This was significant as it marked the beginning of a dominant era for Vance & Hines in motorcycle drag racing. Shortly after the team started racing in the newly formed “Pro Stock Motorcycle” class.

1976

3 in a Row

Vance secured his third consecutive NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle championship. This period of successive victories showcased the technical prowess of Byron Hines and the racing skill of Terry Vance.

1979

The Company

The Vance & Hines company was founded in October of 1979. This venture began as a motorcycle performance shop focused on building drag racing engines.

1980-1988

Building a Legacy

Throughout these eight years, Terry Vance competed in numerous drag racing events, often winning championships. His total finished at 14 Championship the year he retired from active racing in 1988. His success was largely attributed to Hines' expertise in engine tuning and performance enhancement.

1995

Into the Harley-Davidson Market

While Terry Vance retired from active racing, he remained heavily involved in the motorcycle racing community through Vance & Hines. Managing race teams for major manufactures. Yamaha, Ducati and finally Harley-Davidson. 1995 was the year that Vance & Hines moved into the Harley-Davidson products market. The company continued to innovate and dominate in the field of motorcycle performance parts growing to nearly 700 people.

2000s

10 National Championships

Vance & Hines signs with Harley-Davidson to race V-twins in the NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle class. For the next 20 years Vance & Hines would represent Harley-Davidson in the NHRA series, winning 10 National Championships. Six with Andrew Hines, Four with Eddie Krawiec.

2020

New Opportunities

Vance & Hines enters the first MotoAmerica King of The Baggers event at Laguna Seca Raceway, finishing second.

2023

Another Championship

2023 saw the team win another NHRA Pro Stock National Championship with Suzuki and Gaige Herrera riding. Also the Vance & Hines Team won the MotoAmerica King of the Baggers National Championship with Harley Davidson and Hayden Gillum riding. Becoming the first Private team to accomplish this goal and adding another major accomplishment to their motorcycle racing heritage.

2024

Looking Forward

Vance & Hines Motorsports has become synonymous with motorcycle racing excellence, contributing to the sport both as a competitive team and as a manufacturer of high-performance motorcycle parts and we look forward to continuing to grow that legacy.
